Track
[Sorry, no images this time either! Sheesh, hire a photographer
and they fall down on the job!]What a weekend. No, really,
what a weekend. That doesn't even have anything to do with the racing yet! So Jeff and I drove up to the races in my little Toyota and one mile from the
exit for the track, the truck stops running. Just stops. We messed with a few
things, but had no clue as to what was wrong when Troy shows up. Troy is working
at the track this evening and sees us stranded on the side of the road with the
motorcycle in the back and such. He went all the way around and came back to
give us a hand. We swapped all the stuff over to his truck to take me to the
track. He also knows a good tow truck driver (his Uncle!) and calls him to haul the truck up
to a shop he has recommended. Jeff accompanies the truck to the shop and gets a
ride to the track.
Troy and I get to the track and I find my buddy Kay
Bell who is from Cottage Grove, just down the road from where I live. Not only
does he offer
to take my bike and some of my stuff home, he lets us pit with him that night, so that was great.
I Called Glenda and
she agreed to drive up and take Jeff and I home as we were obviously without
wheels. So she recruited Susan (Jeff's wife) and they drove up and got there in
time to watch most of the races too! I just put in two paragraphs what actually
took about two years off my life!
This was my first chance to meet Luke Gough (pronounced
Guff). Luke is a 19 year-old racer from Australia! Yep, down under. In
conjunction with Johnson Cams, Luke came over to try and qualify for the
National to be held at Castle Rock later this month. This is one very nice and
well-spoken young man and I am sure he will be back. I just have to take a
moment to give a huge thanks to Harold MacDonald at Johnson
Cams for all he did to get Luke over here. He arranged for bikes, travel, accommodations
and so much more. Then he worked on Luke's bikes as well. There were just a ton
of folks involved in this and I am not taking anything away from anybody else
that helped, but it was Harold that was behind most of it. Besides helping fast
Aussies, these guys do some great head and cam work. They make a roller rocker
arm for the TT500 that is in our super-motor! Really neat stuff. Call them up
and ask what they can do for you! Harold had called me and I had helped just a
little with this whole thing and it was a pleasure to meet this super-nice kid!
I hope he comes back soon!
it was SUPER COOL to see the FlatTrackStuff.com banners up in
the infield! They looked great! Thanks Gene!
