Ice Racing, Portland, OR, December 16, 2005

This was the first race in the national series sponsored by International Championship Events. Click here to see their website and the rest of the schedule. Make a race if you can!! This event was a lot of fun and there were some great riders there: Johnny Murphree, Joe Kopp, Shaun Russell, and lots of others! As a rider (Mad Dog class) the only bummer was that we only got eight laps on the ice. No practice, just two four-lap races. We spent a lot of time and money for 8 laps! But it was FUN!! We had lots of friends in the stands and they loved all the 450's, quads, carts and speedway bikes!

Project started by tearing down the motor!
Motor is torn down and awaiting reconstruction! You can see the barrel just below the frame.
From the other side. Awaiting reconstruction!
From the other side. Awaiting reconstruction! "We can rebuild it. Better, faster than before!"
BBR big bore piston!
OK, so the image is a little fuzzy, but you can still see the BBR logo if you look hard. This took our little measly TTR125 motor to a full 143cc!!
Shaving a bit off the TTR125 (now 143) barrel.
When we checked the clearances, there was A LOT of extra room, so we shaved the barrel to bring things back to where they should be. We shaved the barrel instead of the head so that everything would still be OK if we wanted to go back to stock someday for some reason.
TTR125 getting a little trim off the top!
All clamped down and getting a little trimmed off the top with the mill. Just a little motorcycle haircut! We are doing all of this because when we heard about the ICE races, I told Jeff that if he would let me ride the TTR, I would race and he took me up on it. Gotta learn to keep my mouth shut!
TTR125 barrel going onto the BBR piston.
OK, so we are trimmed, cleaned and ready to go back together. Barrel is being put down on that beautiful BBR piston you see in the picture above.
The reassembly process begins!
Lets see, this went here and that went there. Or was it this went there and that went here? Hmmm....
Still putting the TTR back together!
OK, OK,  got it! That went here and this went there! That's it. Now it fits! (Just kidding Jeff!)
On the DYNO at last!
That's it? 2 Horsepower? Man, I gotta stop working so late.
WOW!! A few more beers and this thing will make 40 horsepower!
There, another beer and life is good. I wasn't 2, it was 12. Whew! Gotta learn to open my eyes once in awhile.
The Dyno doesn't lie. Well, it can fib a little!
The numbers are there for all to see! Yes we got rid of the hiccup at the start of the run. Not bad huh? Call us for your kit today!
Not bad for a drunk guy! LOL!!
Bike is done and we are just about ready to go. Finishing touches tomorrow night and we will get this thing on the road! Err, ICE!
Just about done and ready to come off the stand.
We are tried, trued, screwed and blued! Ready to go. Actually it is trued. We had to slightly redish the wheel to get the clearance for the chain past the screws!
Final touch, the FlatTrackStuff.com stickers!
That looks good!
Wow! Let's not crash and get run over!
Yes, 1000 screws in the tires. About 600 in the back and 400 in the front. We used every screw we bought. The tires are Bridgestone Trailwings (we use these on our backyard track).
More traction!
Under the tires are 5 inch wide strips we cut off a road tire for liners and then solid mousse inserts. We were not taking a risk of flats!
The TTR weapon ready to take to the ice!
This is our TTR125 (143cc actually) ice racing weapon!! Motor is bored out with 143cc BBR kit, BBR pipe, 26mm Mikuni, 16 inchers on both ends and 1000 screws in the tires!
Start of race 1.
Start of race number two. There are three pros inside, and then me and a young kid behind us on the second row.
Sliding now!
OK, after the crash in the first corner in the first race, I came to terms with things and it was REALLY fun!! Traction was great once you figured out how it worked!
Into corner #3, second race.
Second race, settling down and having some fun now!
Practice start - first time on the ice.
Practice burn-out before the first race. This is the very first time on the ice as there was no practice or anything prior to the first race!
VIDEO!!!
Click here to see race #1. Well, most of it anyway. It picks up right as I pick up the bike after crashing in turn one!
